Jeannie “Mary Davis” Mathis

Jeannie “Mary Davis” Mathis as she was known was born to the parents of the late Alma Bell Hooten Davis and the late Gus Davis on April 6, 1944 in Butler, Georgia 

She grew up and attended the public schools of Taylor County.  Mary met and married the love of her life the late Willie Joe Mathis they share love and happiness through the years. As an industrial woman she worked to build a life of self worth as she cultivated good work ethics. She worked for Goody industries in Manchester, Ga. for many years. Mary was a hard working  woman and she loved people.

Mary was fun and loving person who enjoyed people around her. Her house was the center of the community where all children and babies was always welcome. She was the community cook who feed all the neighboring kids. Mary loved to cook and care for peoples  children.

She confessed her love for Jesus Christ at the Westside Church of God in Christ in Butler, Ga under the leadership of Superintendent Elder Larry Franklin, Sr. Whom she loved and respected. In her golden years she enjoyed attending church, Singing, and listen to her favorite gospel artist Lee Williams and Rance Allen “Something about the name of Jesus” was one of her favorites. 

Mary was like many of us. She enjoyed simple things of life, like watching her Westerns, and eating a good ole Chitterling Plate. Mary never forgot her humble Begining s in life she held true to those values in her life.

Mary had many storms in her life but it never slowed her down she would press her way through whatever the circumstances were. She faced her last storm in this life on Sunday January 26, 2025 when God closed those weary eyes and said come rest my child. She was surrounded by her loving family as she took her rest.

Mary was predeceded by her sons Jerome Mathis, Jermaine Joseph, and Issac Stewart, brothers J. C. Davis, Willie “Arthur” Davis, Hamp Davis, and  Melvin “Squirrel”  Davis, Sisters Marilyn Davis, Minnie Pearl Davis, Sara Davis,  Alma Ruth Adams.

Left to cherish her memory are: Daughters Nichole Brand Butler, Samantha Mathis, Reynolds, Ga. her son Rodney Mathis, of Butler, Ga.  godson Willie Gibson, Coleman, Ga. Sisters Mary Ann Davis West Palm Beach, Fla. Christine (Fred) Gouch Butler, Ga. Brother Willie Frank Davis West Palm Beach, Fla. 16 Grandchildren, a host of Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
