John Edward Shorter, a dedicated logger for Cumming Logging Company, bid farewell to this world on April 27, 2024, at his residence. Born on October 27, 1945, in Macon County, Georgia with Smith Shorter as his father and Bertha Mae Towns Shorter as his mother. John was a proud product of the public schools of Taylor County.
Known for his colorful personality brimming with laughter, fun, and good times, John had a passion for talking and hunting - truly an outdoorsman at heart.
John leaves behind a rich legacy cherished by his surviving family and friends. His beloved wife, Betty Jean Montgomery Shorter, his daughter Laquisha (James) Adkins carry his memory forward. John's presence will be deeply missed by his brothers Emmett (Lillie) Shorter, Smith (Debbie) Shorter, Jr. Clifford Shorter, Charlie (Kimberly) Shorter, Dennis (Sharon) Shorter; sisters Eunice Shorter Montgomery and Juanita (Larry) Turner; Ozella Marie Shorter; as well as his two grandchildren Devin Adkins and Jamiah Adkins.
In the hearts of his surviving loved ones and all who knew him, John's memory will forever be preserved with love and admiration.
A funeral service to honor and remember John Edward Shorter is scheduled to take place on May 4, 2024. The service will be held at Free Run Baptist Church and cemetery located at 485 Marshall Rd in Reynolds, GA. The service will commence at 1:00 PM to celebrate the life of a man who touched many hearts with his warmth and joy.
